Tech vs. Librarian discussion

Hi all - This comes up every once in a while but I'd like to discuss it on the blog if you all have an opinion re: paraprofessionals and professional librarians. In WV many of our libraries are directed and manned by individuals who do not possess a graduate degree in library science. We get on-the-job training, seek supplementary training like PLT program and WVLC workshops, and stay abreast of current topics in the field of library science - but many still feel that one cannot do this work effectively without the MLS degree.
